Week at a Glance and News and Notes

Note from the Principal:

Short and sweet this week.  Kids and staff were hard at work as we cruise through the middle of the first quarter.

Enjoy the weekend!

Happy first week of October – or Socktober as we like to call it in sixth grade!  Every night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets and need simple things, like socks, to help get them through the night. The number one needed clothing item for those in need is new socks, but people very rarely ever donate new socks to the homeless.  The Sixth Grade Team has decided to partner with the nation-wide Socktober Movement to gather socks for those within our own community who are in need. For those that are interested and would like to donate a pair of new socks, there are donation boxes set up in the sixth grade neighborhood.  At the end of the month, all socks will be donated to local homeless shelters to help people in our own community who are in need. Thank you for your support and Happy Socktober! ~The Sixth Grade Team

26th Annual Outerwear Drive

It is almost time for the 26th Annual Winter Outerwear Drive! I understand from Susan Happ that our Southern Berkshire community has been very generous throughout many years, making plentiful contributions of warm clothing for this drive. I am very happy to now be part of this effort in assisting families in our local community. We will be collecting winter clothing during the month of October at Monument Mountain, Monument Valley and Muddy Brook Elementary Schools. A box will be located in the front of each school. We will be collecting COATS, HATS, MITTENS, GLOVES, SNOW PANTS, SCARVES, BOOTS, BLANKETS, etc. Please be sure donated clothing is in “wearable condition”, with working zippers, untorn, unstained and without mildew! We will distribute the collected clothing at Berkshire South Community Center (15 Crissey Rd.) in GB on Saturday, Oct. 26th from 9am to 6pm and on Sunday, Oct. 27th from 9am to 2pm. Please mark your calendars! The mission continues to be, “Every person in Southern Berkshire County will have a warm winter coat!” We will collect many more items than coats, really anything warm! We will continue to count the number of coats and our goal continues to collect at least 1000 coats!  Thank you for your participation!

Thank you for your generous and ongoing support! If you have any questions, please contact Carol Brunnschweiller at 429-6204 or email at
