Monument Valley Regional Middle School

Week at a Glance and News and Notes

Note from the Principal:

A good week, getting back into the stream of a regular school week.  Short and sweet this Friday.  Have a great weekend!

Please join me for School Council meetings next week.  See this link for minutes and notes from the meeting: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vXXjGA6ChCa4tmXLo_Fk1Mys1TnWr3YnxbQX6ayBong/edit?usp=sharing   I really appreciate the input from families on the school, our growth and concerns about children and learning.  We had great discussions about Screens and Teens, the Dress Code, the direction of school improvement, and how we deal with difficult social and community situations.  Please join us next week on Monday, November 5, at 8:15 am and 3:00 pm.

Food Drive

Student Council is sponsoring a Food Drive from November 1st thru December 7th.  Non-perishable canned and boxed goods such as soup, vegetables, legumes, fruit, pasta, stuffing, crackers just to name a few are needed.  Please have your child bring their donation to Advisory.  All items will be delivered to CHP where they will be distributed.  Our goal is 1,000 items.  There will be a Pizza Party for the Advisory that donates the most!

Lost Cell Phones

I have two lost cell phones in the office. Please contact the office if you’ve been missing your phone.

Calling all interested students! Only a few spaces remaining!

Open Thought Productions from New York City will once again return to Monument Valley for a week-long lively arts residency.

(Please see link to event below. Artist’s bios and informational letter for parents are linked as well.)

Visit the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center link for more information: http://www.mahaiwe.org/HipHopResidency2018

Students who participate in this program will collaborate in innovative programming to create a multi-dimensional performance, which will be shared during evening of Nov. 30th at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, who are the generous sponsors of this residency.

We are looking for MV students in grades 6-8 who play instruments, enjoy spoken word and poetry, students who may be singers, and who are interested in Hip Hop and expressive styles of movement. Sessions will include in beatboxing, Dj’ing and more!

Please speak with your child about this opportunity and email Mrs. Astion if your child is interested.

donna.astion@bhrsd.org

The workshops take place at Monument Valley for one hour each day Monday-Thursday during the week of November 26-30th.

On the Friday of that week, students will travel to the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center for a half-day rehearsal in preparation for the evening community performance. Three schools from Berkshire County will participate and work together to create this exceptional event. Students must be able to perform in the evening on Nov. 30th.

Past experience has shown this to be a fabulous celebration of talent.

Artists include Baba Israel, Yako 440, and Ken Fury, dancer, and Grace Galu, singer.
