Monument Valley Regional Middle School

Week at a Glance and News and Notes

Note from the Principal:

Greetings from the end of the last full week of school!  This has been a great year for Monument Valley.  I am amazed at what the students have accomplished.  I am appreciative of how hard the educators have worked this year—the teachers, the paras, the support staff and all the adults who make this learning community hum.  Looking back on the year it is satisfying to think of all the projects, the collaborations, the successes that kids and grown-ups have completed and experienced.  We also had our fair share of challenges, of stumbles, of falls—this is what makes this community so precious: how we support each other, how we recover, how well we connect with others.  I am proud of our community. A good example of how we strive to make school relevant and engaging for students is our Year End Study, called YES, for the eighth graders.  Every eighth grader is involved in a service learning project the last days of their middle school experience.  Students are maintaining the Appalachian Trail, making dolls for children getting surgery, growing food for food pantries, learning about community reporting, cleaning our local lakes and waterways, and several other projects.  The students are really enjoying the activities and the chance to give back and make a difference.  The energy that they bring back to the school these last days sets a great tone for the rest of the students.  And this is all because of the hard work of a team of teachers and paras.  It is what I strive to do: give the educators the resources, time and encouragement to make learning relevant and meaningful for your children.  Thank you for the opportunity, and please also take the time to thank the educators for their hard work and care.

Have a great weekend!
