Monument Valley Regional Middle School

Week at a Glance and News and Notes

Note from the Principal:

This was a whirlwind of a week back from break!  It did bring us sunshine!  We had a good set of forums yesterday with parents and guardians, and a big thank you to Railroad Street Youth Project for leading the discussion on Vaping, drugs, alcohol and keeping our children safe in their development from childhood to adolescence.  And remember we will be showing the film Screenagers so families can get informed about devices, social media and raising teens in the digital age, which is on May 23 at 6 pm at Monument Mountain’s auditorium.  These two events come right out of the Parent advisory Council.  The next council meetings will be on Monday, April 30, at 8:15 am and Monday, May 7, at 3 pm.  Please join us if you want to talk about the school, its development and things you would like to see addressed.

Have a good weekend!

Screenagers coming in May!

We are pleased to announce that our school is hosting a showing of the film Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age ( next month.  This is a popular film that really help parents and guardians understand the role of devices and social media in your child’s life, and guides you on teenage development and appropriate limits and expectations you can set for your kid.  It has been shown several times in the area, and all over the country, and parents from our Parent Advisory Council thought it would be a great idea to bring it to us.  We will screen the film and then have a Question and Answer session about devices at home and at school.  Please join us if you want to get informed, but also if you want to get connected to other parents working through this with their teenagers.  Also join us if you are getting ready to embark in this teenage journey with your younger kids.  We will also be inviting the elementary and high school families, as well as families from districts around the area.  Many thanks to Ivy Cote, a Monument Valley parent, for leading this initiative and getting the resources together through a Go Fund Me campaign to show the film to the community.  And thanks to Evan Smith, also a Monument Valley Parent, for helping to set up the funding site and creating the poster and promo materials.  This event is happening because several parents chose to follow an idea to fruition—please join our Parent Advisory Council if you have an idea that you think can help the school community.  We hope this film event will be the start of a fruitful conversation around devices, screen time and social media use for our children.  Please share your ideas with me via email,, or join us at our Parent Advisory Council so we can continue to address what you need and want to discuss.  Our next two council meetings are on Monday, April 30 at 8:15 and Monday, May 7 at 3 pm—two times to try to make it convenient for folks to join.
