Monument Valley Regional Middle School

Week at a Glance and News and Notes

Note from the Principal:

This was another really busy week at Monument Valley.  The spring brings a lot of activity.  We have the musical this weekend, Annie, Jr., so come on out tonight to tomorrow evening, or Sunday for the matinee.  We have Shakespeare and Company working with the eighth grade and the workshop today with the seventh grade.  Flying Cloud was in this week wrapping up their residency in the seventh grade.  Sixth grade goes to college next week for their annual visit to a local college.  And of course, we have our signature fifth grade field experience, Nature’s Classroom, for all fifth graders next week.  And amid all of this, students are busy in classes on projects and activities.  In the energy of a busy week, please find some time this weekend to just take some time with your kids and enjoy the connection.  We can forget to stop and smell the roses together, and they are almost ready to bloom…

Repeat from previous week:  The Parent Advisory Council meetings are a very useful way for me to get feedback on the school programs and initiatives.  We have a few parents consistently joining us, but we would love more input.  One of the items discussed at the recent meetings this week is a Parent Survey: getting feedback from families on how we are doing, what folks want to see in the school, and how we can best communicate and collaborate around your children’s education.  We would love some help in designing and deploying this survey.  The next council meetings will be on Monday, April 30, at 8:15 am and Monday, May 7, at 3 pm (Note change of afternoon session to a week later to accommodate elementary school council).  Please join us if you want to talk about the school development, and if you can help with the survey.  Also look for an email soon with info on helping organize for our Screens and Teens event to see the film Screenagers and get informed on our children’s use of devices.  I am planning on holding a set of Forums on substance use called “Vaping, Alcohol and Marijuana: what every parent wants to know and what you can do to keep your child safe” towards the end of April.  This comes from many parents asking for more information so they can be educated, and also for a forum to discuss with other parents.  Please send me your concerns and questions—I’d like the forum to be as helpful as possible.  As always, please contact me at ben.doren@bhrsd.org if you have questions or concerns about this or any other issue at MV.
