Week at a Glance and News and Notes

 Note from the Principal:

We had a good break last week to be with friends and family.  I hope you all enjoyed the time together.  This week the students returned with a lot of energy, and we worked hard to harness that energy into focus.  It also has stayed relatively pleasant outside, so it is nice to see the students running about at recess still without bundles of jackets and gloves even though it is December today.  I am always appreciative of the way teachers and paras are able to work with all types of students to garner that focus.  It is a lot of work to get to know each student well enough to craft instruction that works for all.  The staff at MV work hard to plan and deploy their lessons so they work for our students.  One of the ways we do this is by making sure all staff meet in teams through the week.  We discuss students and learning, trips and events, struggles and successes, and how to best organize to benefit the students.  These past weeks each department has or will take a day for collaborative planning.  Though this is time away from the students it really makes a difference day to day with the alignment of instruction from year to year.  Teachers study shifts in standards, share instructional practices, review information and share assignments.  The collegial work is what makes this learning community hum.

Have a good weekend.

Paying for School meals

For those parents and guardians who have been using MySchoolBucks, we apologize for the short notice on the fee increase from $1.95 to $2.49 when you use your credit card to add funds to your child(ren)’s  meals account.  This is the first increase in sixteen years and it caught us a little off-guard as well.  We will be diligent about getting this information to you with more notice in the future.  You can also use MySchoolBucks to fund your students’ account(s) with a direct payment from your checking account and that fee remains at $1.00.  And, of course, you are always welcome to send a check or cash in with your student to fund their meals account.  If you have more questions about this process, feel free to call our Director of Food Services, Kathy Sullivan, at 413-644-2325.

Lost and Found

We have a lot of items in our lost & found.  Please check to see if your child has anything to claim.  We will be donating all remaining lost & found items over the Holiday Break.

Physical Education Reminder

For the safety of all students, sneakers are required for ALL Physical Education classes. Boot season is upon us, so please remind students to pack sneakers on PE days or leave a pair in their locker for the winter.
